Join us for a fun filled night of crafting as we begin our journey in applied potion making.
What to expect:
The potion making series is split into three sections spread over three months. We will begin with the basic storage method using an oil to extract the plant properties. This method often takes the longest to produce an extraction.
~ Students will begin each section (month) by preselecting an herb that "calls" them, for their extractions.
~ Students will then use the store's library to research some of the benefits the herb carries.
~ Students will write down in their notebook one topical use the herb is good for, one internal use the herb is good for, and jot down any warnings associated with the plant of their choice.
~ Students will then craft their oil and take it home where they will complete their homework for the month.
The following month, students who return for the second part of the series will be asked to bring back their crafted stored oils for a recap, assessment, and further homework in addition to researching and learning about the second method of extractions.
The second month will focus on solar and heated oil extraction, continued homework for the storage method, and secondary homework for method two.
~ Students will decide if they wish to solar infuse their oil, manually heat their oil to extract, or test out both methods for comparison. Journaling will be required.
~ Students who continue into the third month will be asked to bring both the storage method oil and the heat applied extraction with them for recap, assessment, and further homework in addition to researching and learning the third method of extracting.
~ At the end of the third class students will be asked which method they prefer to use and why.
August ---> Storage method extraction
September ---> Heat/solar extraction
October ---> Intermediary method
~ There will be a Salve making class on the last Friday of the month where students who have created different oil extractions with this class, can bring them to the Salve making class to learn how to combine them into a useful topical. Keep an eye out for that event as all of the classes intertwine with one another. ~
Students who come into the shop will be provided one small jar with a lid, instructions, and a small bottle of specially blended oil for extracting. Students in the shop for class will be required to purchase a herb to use in class. Purchases for herbs can be done online when donating for the class.
