Warnings: Alfalfa sprouts and seeds contain an amino acid known as canavanine. Overuse of this herb may cause lupus flare ups, gastrointestinal complaints, and a decrease in white and red cell production. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers should avoid using alfalfa. Alfalfa affects the milk production in nursing mothers by reducing milk production.
